Afghanistan–Iran trade continues as 1,300 trucks cross Islam Qala daily
KABUL: Despite the ongoing war among Iran, the United States, and Israel, local officials in Herat Province say trade between Afghanistan and Iran is continuing as usual.
According to a statement from the Herat governor’s press office on Monday, around 1,300 cargo trucks cross the Islam Qala Border Crossing each day between the two countries.
The statement said 600 trucks depart from Afghanistan to Iran daily, while 700 trucks carrying commercial goods enter Afghanistan from Iran, adding that no serious problems have been reported in the process.
The statement further noted that the local administration in Herat is closely monitoring domestic markets and warned that any trader or shopkeeper who raises prices arbitrarily under the pretext of disrupted routes from Iran will face legal action.
Local officials said that annual trade between Afghanistan and Iran currently reaches about $4 billion, with the Islam Qala border crossing playing a major role in facilitating the exchange.
Over the past two days, authorities in Herat have also reported seizing stockpiles of hoarded food supplies and closing shops accused of overpricing goods in the province.
