Afghanistan–Sri Lanka Cricket series in UAE postponed amid Middle East tensions

KABUL: A scheduled cricket series between the national teams of Afghanistan and Sri Lanka in the United Arab Emirates has been postponed due to escalating conflict and instability in the Middle East.

According to Reuters on Wednesday, the matches originally planned for March have been delayed to an unspecified later date.

Under the initial schedule, Afghanistan’s national cricket team was set to host Sri Lanka for the first time from March 13 to March 25. The tour included three T20 matches in the city of Sharjah and three One Day International (ODI) matches in Dubai.

Cricket officials cited flight disruptions and deteriorating regional security conditions as the main reasons behind the postponement.

The report did not specify when the series will be rescheduled.

Regional tensions have intensified following military strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran, after which Iranian forces reportedly targeted U.S. bases across the Middle East, raising security concerns in several Arab countries.
