UNAMA voices concern over rising tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan

KABUL: The acting head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), Georgette Gagnon, has expressed concern over escalating tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Speaking at a press conference, Gagnon warned that the continuation of hostilities could create serious risks, with civilians likely to bear the brunt through casualties and displacement.
She urged the parties involved to exercise restraint, reduce violence, and return to a ceasefire and diplomatic dialogue.
Her remarks come as tensions between the two countries have risen in recent days following cross-border strikes and accusations from both sides.
The Islamic Emirate officials have said they remain committed to diplomacy but expressed doubts about the other side’s willingness to honor its commitments.
