China envoy discusses Kabul-Islamabad tensions with Pakistani officials

KABUL: Yue Xiaoyong, China’s special envoy for Afghanistan, held talks with Pakistani officials amid continuing tensions between Kabul and Islamabad.

In a post on X early Saturday, Yue said he met with Amna Baloch, a senior official at the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mohammad Sadiq Khan, Pakistan’s special envoy for Afghanistan.

According to Yue, the meetings discussed recent clashes along the Durand Line and stressed the importance of preventing further escalation and returning to negotiations.

“We also agreed to cooperate to promote peace, combat terrorism, ensure security, and support development in the region,” Yue wrote.

The Chinese diplomat added that he spent March 11–13 in Pakistan meeting officials. Previously, he had traveled to Afghanistan and held discussions with authorities there.

The diplomatic engagements come as clashes between Afghan forces and Pakistan’s military continue along the border.
