Zolfaqari: Iran sees no need to mine Strait of Hormuz, controls it powerfully and intelligently

KABUL: Ebrahim Zolfaqari, spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters, one of Iran’s principal military commands has recently said that Iran “powerfully and intelligently” controls the Strait of Hormuz and therefore there is no need to lay mines there.

Tasnim News Agency, an Iranian state outlet, on Monday night, Zolfaqari, while asserting there is no requirement to mine the strait, added that Iran’s armed forces will, if necessary, employ any available means to ensure the security of the Strait of Hormuz.

He said that, by dominating “American and Zionist enemies” and cooperating with regional countries, Iran is capable of securing the Persian Gulf and that external, non‑regional countries have no right to intervene in this responsibility.

Senior Iranian military and government officials had previously dismissed reports suggesting the Strait of Hormuz had been closed.
