At least 22 refugees die of starvation and thirst after six days adrift in Greek waters

KABUL: At least 22 refugees died of hunger and thirst after drifting in the waters of the Aegean/Greek seas for six days; their bodies have been recovered from the sea.
Al Jazeera reported Saturday night, citing the Hellenic Coast Guard and two survivors from the vessel, that the boat carrying the refugees departed the Libyan port city of Tobruk about a week earlier (March 21) bound for Greece but became lost en route.
According to the coast guard, based on accounts from the survivors, the passengers lost their way during the voyage and remained at sea for 6 days without food or water. The report says the bodies of the refugees were thrown overboard on the orders of one of the traffickers.
No precise information about the identities of the deceased has been released.
Every year thousands of refugees attempting to reach Europe via dangerous irregular migration routes die in tragic incidents like this one.
