Recent rains fill dams across Afghanistan, ministry says

KABUL: Afghanistan’s Ministry of Water and Energy says recent heavy rainfall has significantly increased water levels in several major dams across the country.
According to a statement from the ministry today, key dams including Pashdan in Herat, Sultan in Ghazni, and Shah wa Arous and Qargha in Kabul have reached high capacity levels.
The ministry said the rise in water levels reflects an improvement in water resource conditions and is expected to positively impact the agricultural sector.
Officials also expressed optimism about a productive year ahead, citing the benefits of increased rainfall and reservoirs.
The development comes as authorities have in recent years focused on building dams and small water reservoirs to better manage rainwater and support groundwater resources.
