KABUL: Indrika Ratwatte, Deputy Humanitarian Coordinator of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), at the end of his mission held a farewell meeting with the Minister of Refugees and Repatriations Mawlavi Abdul Kabir, the ministry said in a statement today.
According to the statement, during the meeting Ratwatte, expressed appreciation for cooperation during his tenure and reaffirmed his commitment to continue supporting the Afghan people.
Ratwatte praised efforts to assist returning refugees and internally displaced persons, noting that despite global crises, the UN had mobilized significant humanitarian aid for Afghanistan.
He also voiced concern over civilian casualties linked to cross-border violence along the Durand Line, adding that facilities of the International Organization for Migration had been affected.
UN agencies have begun delivering aid to newly displaced families, with operations expected to conclude soon, he said.
For his part, Mawlavi Abdul Kabir thanked Ratwatte for his humanitarian work and emphasized the importance of continued UN assistance, noting that aid efforts for displaced families are ongoing in several border provinces.
Ratwatte had served in the role since late 2023.
