KABUL: At least six people have been martyred and seven others injured in the past 24 hours due to heavy rainfall and related disasters across Afghanistan, officials said.
Spokesman of the National Disaster Management Authority, Mohammad Yousuf Hamad, said the casualties were caused by heavy rains, flash floods, and lightning strikes.
According to him, 139 homes were completely destroyed, while 394 houses, 13 shops, and 10 kilometers of roads were partially damaged.
The incidents were reported in multiple provinces, including Kabul, Panjshir, Khost, Ghor, Badakhshan, Kunar, and Laghman provinces, among others.
Authorities said that since March 25, a total of 48 people have been martyred and 73 injured in weather-related incidents nationwide, with hundreds of homes destroyed or damaged and many families displaced.
Officials added that emergency assistance is being provided to affected communities and displaced families are being relocated to safer areas.
The national meteorological department has warned that heavy rainfall is expected to continue across the country for the next four days.
