KABUL: Abdullah Azizov, head of the pharmaceutical authority at Uzbekistan’s health ministry, says Uzbek traders and investors are prepared to invest in medicine production in Afghanistan.
According to a statement from Mullah Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan on Sunday, Azizov made the remarks during a meeting with Abdul Salam Hanafi, the Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs.
Azizov said exporting high-quality medicines to Afghanistan and building public trust are key priorities, adding that Uzbekistan is committed to supplying the same standard medicines used domestically.
He also stressed Uzbekistan’s readiness to support laboratory equipment supply and capacity-building for laboratory staff in Afghanistan.
Hanafi welcomed the initiative, calling Uzbek investment in Afghanistan’s pharmaceutical sector a “valuable step” toward strengthening bilateral ties.
He said the Islamic Emirate would facilitate investment, adding: “Relations between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan are at their best level, and the Islamic Emirate seeks its further expansion particularly in the economic and trade sectors.”
Officials say cooperation between the two countries continues to expand across multiple fields, especially trade and investment.
