Construction begins on 850-million-Afghani cargo terminal in Balkh

KABUL: The country’s Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, said in a statement today that the construction has officially begun on a modern cargo terminal worth 850 million Afghanis in Balkh.

According to the statement, the foundation stone for the major project was laid by Mullah Abdul Salam Haidari, Deputy Minister for Road Transport, along with the deputy governor of Balkh.

The ministry said the cargo terminal will be built in the “Hairatan Crossroads” area through a public-private partnership.

The project will cover 1,000 jeribs of land and include a two-story building, organized parking areas and vehicle repair facilities, administrative offices, and other necessary infrastructure.

Officials said construction of the Hairatan Crossroads cargo terminal is expected to be completed within two years.

The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation says it is working not only on managing Afghanistan’s air and ground transportation sectors, but also on improving related infrastructure across the country.
