Defense Minister: Afghanistan’s national interests top priority

KABUL: Mawlavi Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, Minister of National Defense said that Afghanistan’s national interests are more important than other things and stressed that Afghan territory will not be used against any other country.

Speaking to reporters at Kabul International Airport, Mujahid commented on the military and technical cooperation agreement with Russia, noting that Afghanistan possesses military equipment from Russia as well as from the United States and Brazil. He added that similar technical cooperation agreements could be pursued with other countries if needed and if there is mutual interest.

The defense minister emphasized that the primary objective of such cooperation is to strengthen Afghanistan’s military capabilities and achieve greater self-sufficiency in the defense sector.

Mujahid further stated that the Islamic Emirate is working to enhance the country’s defense capacity while maintaining balanced relations with different nations and safeguarding Afghanistan’s national interests.
