Canada eyes stricter social media controls for children and teens

KABUL: The Canadian government has introduced a new digital safety proposal that would require users to verify they are at least 16 years old before accessing social media platforms such as Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram.
Under the proposal, a new body known as the Canada Digital Safety Commission would be established to oversee and enforce the regulations.
According to reports citing government officials, the initiative is intended to protect children and teenagers, reduce online harms, and create a safer environment for social media use.
If approved, Canada would join a growing number of countries that have introduced stricter rules governing minors’ access to social media platforms.
