Trump claims Iran conflict has ended, says major agreement is near

KABUL: U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that the conflict with Iran has come to an end and that the two sides have reached an understanding under which Tehran will never obtain nuclear weapons.

Trump said: “I don’t know if you heard, but today we ended the war with Iran, and they agreed that they will never have nuclear weapons.”

He added: “Today we reached an agreement with Iran. We achieved a great deal. There will be no nuclear weapons, and people will soon return to their homes. Nearly everything has been finalized, and we have achieved all of our objectives.”

Trump did not provide further details about the reported agreement, and Iranian officials had not publicly responded to his remarks at the time of his statement.

The comments come amid ongoing international attention on tensions between Washington and Tehran and efforts to address concerns surrounding Iran’s nuclear program.
