KABUL: The High Commission for Addressing Refugees’ Issues said in a statement that 540 Afghan refugee families totaling 2,795 individuals were forcibly returned to the country through different routes in a single day.
According to the statement, the largest number of returnees entered through Torkham, with 413 families and 2,255 people.
With the efforts of the Transport and Transfer Commission, 439 families (2,442 individuals) were transported to different provinces, and financial assistance was provided to cover transportation costs, said the statement, adding that cash assistance was provided to 1,075 families, and 518 SIM cards were distributed to returnees to strengthen communications services.
The returnees, health-related, food-related, and public-awareness services will also be provided on an ongoing (permanent) basis.
