Muttaqi meets Bangladesh Parliament Speaker in Tehran, stresses trade expansion

KABUL: Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, met with Hafizuddin Ahmed, Speaker of the Parliament of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, on the sidelines of his visit to Tehran, where the two sides discussed expanding bilateral relations, particularly in the field of trade cooperation.

According to a statement from Abdul Qahar Balkhi, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides reviewed ways to strengthen relations between Afghanistan and Bangladesh, with a focus on increasing trade exchanges.

The statement said that Muttaqi highlighted the significant potential for economic cooperation between the two countries and stressed the importance of utilizing these opportunities to support the economic growth of both Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

In response, the Bangladeshi parliamentary speaker described relations between the two countries as historical and longstanding, adding that expanding trade ties alongside Afghanistan’s economic reconstruction process presents a valuable opportunity for mutual benefit.

Both sides emphasized the importance of enhancing diplomatic engagement and fostering economic partnerships to support regional development.
