KABUL: Russia’s Supreme Court has ruled to exclude the liberal and anti-war Yabloko Party from September’s parliamentary elections.
The decision followed a lawsuit filed by the nationalist Rodina Party, which alleged that Yabloko had published material on its website supporting the international LGBT movement, which Russia’s Supreme Court declared “extremist” and banned in 2023.
Nikolai Rybakov, leader of Yabloko, described the decision as political and unlawful, saying that his party would appeal the court’s ruling.
Yabloko has been one of the few registered political parties in Russia to openly oppose the war in Ukraine, calling for an end to the conflict and the establishment of a ceasefire.
