KABUL: The United States and South Korea have agreed to reduce their annual joint military exercises from 11 days to five days and scale back some of the drills’ field-training activities.
The decision comes after U.S. President Donald Trump ordered a significant reduction in American participation in joint military exercises with the South Korean military.
The annual U.S.-South Korea drills are held to strengthen the two countries’ readiness to respond to a potential attack from North Korea.
The move comes as efforts to revive engagement with North Korea are also being discussed.
