KABUL: U.S. President Donald Trump says Washington will wait a little longer to see how the situation with Iran develops, claiming that Tehran is facing severe economic and military pressure.
Trump said Iran is struggling financially and lacks adequate naval and air capabilities. He also claimed that “Iran is unable to pay its soldiers and police and that inflation has reached 350 percent.”
He further claimed that the United States has “complete control” over areas near Iran’s borders and the Strait of Hormuz, adding that Washington would wait longer to assess the outcome of the current situation.
According to Trump, Iran wants to reach an agreement with the United States, but Tehran is still unwilling to accept what he described as the “right deal.”
Disagreements over the Strait of Hormuz, sanctions and the conditions for ending the conflict remain key obstacles to negotiations between Washington and Tehran. Iran has called for the lifting of U.S. sanctions and the end of the blockade as part of its conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, while Washington has not accepted Tehran’s demands.
