KABUL: Zalmay Khalilzad, the former U.S. special representative for Afghanistan, has met with Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, the Islamic Emirate’s Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs.
According to a statement from the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office for Economic Affairs, the meeting focused on the regional situation, progress in good governance and infrastructure development in Afghanistan, and opportunities available for foreign companies to invest in various sectors of the country.
Khalilzad said progress has been made in different sectors of Afghanistan and that a suitable environment has been created to attract foreign investment.
He added that several companies from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Azerbaijan and Norway are interested in investing in various sectors of Afghanistan, particularly in oil and gas exploration and extraction.
Baradar welcomed the interest shown by companies from these countries and said the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is providing the necessary facilities for investors and assures them of its full cooperation and support.
