KABUL: At least 41 people have died and 49 others have been rescued after a boat sank on Lake Tanganyika in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
According to The Associated Press, the incident occurred on September 24 as the boat was traveling from the port of Kigoma in Tanzania toward the city of Kalemie in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The transport minister of Tanganyika province said about 100 people were aboard the vessel. He said 49 people had been rescued, while at least 41 others died in the incident.
Authorities said the cause of the sinking remains unclear and an investigation is underway.
