Eight oil tankers reportedly exploded in Strait of Hormuz over two days

KABUL: Iranian media outlets have reported that eight oil tankers exploded in the Strait of Hormuz over the past two days after striking naval mines, following a claim by the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) that it had cleared sea mines from the strategic waterway.

According to the reports, the vessels ignored warnings from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy and attempted to pass through an unauthorised southern route in the strait, which was reportedly prohibited.

Meanwhile, CENTCOM has announced that it has cleared all areas of the Strait of Hormuz of naval mines.

However, the claims made by both sides have not been independently verified.
