Afghanistan and Kazakhstan discuss cooperation in medical equipment manufacturing

KABUL: Mawlavi Hamdullah Zahid, Afghanistan’s Deputy Minister of Food and Drug Affairs at the Ministry of Public Health, has visited a pharmaceutical and healthcare products quality-control laboratory and a medical equipment manufacturing factory in Almaty during his visit to Kazakhstan.
The Ministry of Public Health said Zahid toured various departments of the quality-control laboratory affiliated with Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Health, where he discussed technical cooperation, the exchange of expertise and continued reciprocal visits with Kazakh officials.
The Afghan delegation also visited JULDYZ KENAN, a medical equipment manufacturing company, and its quality-control laboratory. During the visit, Afghan officials asked the company to provide a list of its 120 locally manufactured products, along with competitive prices, so they could compare them with imported products available in Afghanistan and assess their suitability for the country’s public and private healthcare sectors.
According to the ministry, the company pledged to explore opportunities to produce medical equipment in Afghanistan in the long term, in cooperation with Afghan manufacturers to help facilitate technology transfer and the domestic production of essential healthcare equipment.
Afghanistan remains heavily dependent on imports to meet much of its demand for medicines and medical equipment.
In recent years, efforts to strengthen domestic production and expand technical cooperation with regional countries have increased.
