Health Minister, WHO officials discuss polio eradication

KABUL: The Acting Minister of Public Health Mawlavi Noor Jalal Jalali, in a meeting with Dr. Hamed Jafari, the Polio Eradication Program Manager for the Eastern Mediterranean Region of the World Health Organization and his accompanyingdelegation, here in his office, discussed the ways to eradicate polio, ministry said in a statement.

According to the statement, the two sides discussed ways to eradicate polio and activate the polio diagnosis laboratory.

According to the statement, Minister Jalali asked for the provision of remaining equipment, funding, and capacity building for the technical staff of the polio diagnosis laboratory in the country.

He also called the operation of the polio laboratory in the country important.

Meanwhile, World Health Organization officials assured that the equipment for the polio diagnosis laboratory will soon arrive in the country and become operational.

Efforts underway by the Ministry of Public Health’s efforts, in collaboration with international organizations, to eradicate polio or childhood paralysis in the country.
