KABUL: The Head of the National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA) Mawlavi Mati-ul Haq Khalis, said that the international community has not fulfilled its commitments regarding environmental cooperation with Afghanistan.
He made the remarks today in a meeting with the Turkish ambassador to Afghanistan Cenk Unal, the agency said in a statement.
“Afghanistan is committed to all international conventions,” he said adding that the country has been affected by the consequences of climate change, including unseasonal rain, natural disasters, and dangerous floods.
Mawlavi Khalis expressed hope that Turkey would engage in joint cooperation with Afghanistan on environmental issues, technology, knowledge transfer, and capacity building through signed agreements.
Meanwhile, the Turkish ambassador mentioned that his country is trying to cooperate with Afghanistan on environmental matters and other issues, said the statement.
He added that he would share the discussed issues with the Turkish government and explore how to share advice and experiences related to climate change with Afghanistan.
