After 12 years Turkey resumed diplomatic missions in Syria

KABUL: A week after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, Turkey has announced the reopening of its embassy in Damascus.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that the embassy in the Syrian capital will officially reopen today.

He also mentioned that a diplomatic delegation from Turkey has arrived in Damascus for the reopening.

In an interview with a Turkish television network, Fidan expressed Turkey’s desire for a Syria free from violence and terrorism.

Turkey had suspended its diplomatic activities in Syria for about 12 years (since 2011) due to disagreements with the Assad regime.

Last week, opposition forces led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham managed to overthrow the Assad family’s 53-year-long rule.
