Flash floods claim 21 lives, injure five others in Farah

KABUL: At least 21 people have been martyred and 5 others have been injured due to flash floods in the outskirts of the province, local officials confirmed.

Mawlavi Mohammad Israil Sayar, head of the Natural Disaster Management Authority in Farah, in an interview with Radio Omid, said that members of three families were taken unawares by heavy rains while they were out for a picnic in the mountains of the Pushtkoh district of the province.

He noted that among the victims were women and children from these families.

Meanwhile, Mawlavi Mohammad Nasim Badri, police spokesperson of Farah, confirmed the report and stated that police forces have reached the scene to assist in the recovery of bodies and the injured. Also, local officials from Helmand and Kandahar provinces reported casualties among civilians due to flash floods and the collapse of residential roofs.
