Iranian official warns U.S. strikes will not go unanswered

KABUL: An Iranian Foreign Ministry official has warned that recent U.S. military strikes against Iran “will not go unanswered,” accusing Washington of failing to uphold its commitments under the Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries.

According to Al Jazeera, Ali Safari, an adviser to the spokesperson of Iran’s Foreign Ministry, accused the United States of violating the agreement signed on June 16.

Safari said the memorandum assigned Iran responsibility for coordinating future arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz, with consultations involving Oman and other regional countries.

He also claimed that a southern shipping route, established under U.S. pressure, has hindered the implementation of the agreement and increased security risks, including the possibility of maritime collisions.

Safari warned that the United States must honor its commitments or bear responsibility for the consequences of its actions, adding that Iran is prepared for any potential confrontation.
