China increase diplomatic efforts to improve Afghanistan-Pakistan relations

KABUL: China is intensifying its diplomatic efforts to improve relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan, with its special envoy for Afghanistan holding talks with officials in both countries on ways to ease tensions and resolve outstanding issues.

China’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan, Yu Xiaoyong, has traveled to Türkiye, Pakistan and Afghanistan as part of a regional tour, where he discussed strengthening bilateral relations and addressing existing disputes with officials from both sides.

China’s Foreign Ministry said that in the meetings between Yu and Islamic Emirate officials expanding relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan and exploring ways to resolve their differences have been discussed.

The diplomatic efforts come as Beijing has repeatedly supported dialogue between Kabul and Islamabad and called for the normalization of relations.

Yu’s latest regional engagements indicate that Beijing is seeking to strengthen its diplomatic role in improving Afghanistan-Pakistan ties and play a more active part in reducing tensions and bringing the positions of the two sides closer.
