KABUL: U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that he will consider a meeting with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, during his upcoming trip to Saudi Arabia.
According to the TASS Russian state news agency, Trump made the remarks while speaking to reporters on Monday.
When asked whether he might meet with the Russian president during his visit to Saudi Arabia, he replied, “I don’t know; we need to think about it. I haven’t thought about it until now.”
Trump emphasized that he will soon be heading to Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.
Reports indicate that this visit is expected to take place in mid-May.
If a meeting with Putin occurs, it will happen after Washington recently announced its withdrawal from mediation efforts between Moscow and Kyiv.
The last conversation between the leaders of the White House and the Kremlin occurred on March 18, concerning a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine.
