Iran-U.S. Nuclear talks: Araghchi arrives in Geneva

KABUL: Dr. Sayed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, arrived in Geneva on Wednesday night for bilateral talks with a U.S. delegation aimed at addressing Tehran’s nuclear program.

Iran’s state-affiliated Tasnim News Agency reported that Araghchi’s plane landed in the Swiss city late Wednesday, publishing video footage of his arrival.

The Iranian and American delegations are expected to hold the third round of negotiations in Geneva, in what observers describe as potentially decisive talks to prevent further escalation and avert the risk of military conflict between the two countries.

Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently described Iran’s nuclear and missile programs as a “serious threat” to U.S. interests. Rubio told reporters that the issue was also highlighted in President Donald Trump’s annual address to Congress.

“I want everyone to understand that the Iranian government has been a very serious threat to the United States for a long time,” Rubio said.

It remains to be seen whether the latest round of negotiations in Geneva will lead to a breakthrough agreement between the two sides.
