Ministry of Promotion of Virtue warns shopkeepers and traders to refrain from hoarding and price hikes

KABUL: The Ministry of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice has warned shopkeepers and traders to refrain from hoarding goods and raising prices, stating that its inspectors are actively monitoring markets across the country.

Saif-ul-Islam Khyber, spokesperson for the ministry, in an audio statement on Wednesday said that the ministry is carrying out oversight activities nationwide based on its religious mandate and Article 18 of its governing law, warning that violators would be brought to justice and judicial organs.

“Shopkeepers must avoid hoarding, overpricing, and selling expired goods, describing such practices as cruelty (injustice) against the public and warning that offenders would face punishment,” he said.

The ministry has also published contact numbers for each province, urging citizens to report cases of hoarding and price manipulation.

Market inspections by the ministry’s morality officers are ongoing to ensure compliance with official price lists and to prevent the sale of expired products.
