KABUL: The United States is preparing to deploy around 1,000 additional Marines to the Middle East in the coming days, CNN citing informed sources reported on Tuesday.
According to the report, the forces are expected to come from the 82nd Airborne Division, alongside support personnel, under the command of Brandon Tegtmeier.
Sources said an initial group could be deployed within a week, with additional troops joining later. However, a formal deployment order has not yet been issued.
The move comes amid ongoing tensions in the region and as U.S. officials, including Donald Trump, speak of parallel diplomatic efforts with Iran.
It remains unclear whether the forces will be assigned combat roles or other missions.
