KABUL: At least 13 people have been martyred and another 13 injured in the past 24 hours due to heavy rain-related incidents across Afghanistan, officials said.
Mohammad Yousuf Hamad, spokesperson for the National Disaster Management Authority, in an audiotape. said the casualties were caused by heavy rain, flooding, and house collapses.
He added that 157 homes were completely destroyed and 1,293 others partially damaged in the same period.
According to him, infrastructure damage included 18 kilometers of roads, 93 wells and water networks, and more than 2,000 jeribs of agricultural land. At least 263 livestock also perished.
The casualties and damage were reported in multiple provinces, including Kabul, Parwan, Kapisa, Daikundi, Paktia, Paktika, Maidan Wardak, Ghazni, Zabul, Uruzgan, Kandahar, Herat, Nimroz, Ghor, Badghis, Samangan, Takhar, Badakhshan, Nangarhar, Laghman, and Kunar provinces.
The update comes as the national meteorological authority has warned that more than 20 provinces are expected to continue experiencing heavy rainfall and flash floods
