KABUL: There is no official confirmation that Iran has captured a U.S. pilot, despite emerging speculation following a recent incident.
A former military officer, speaking anonymously to the BBC, said it is possible that Iranian forces may have located or even detained a pilot but have chosen not to disclose it publicly.
“Iran may have identified the pilot’s location but could be deliberately staying silent to avoid drawing U.S. rescue operations into a trap,” the source said.
The officer added that in such situations, pilots typically attempt to hide or discard their military uniforms and equipment to reduce the risk of identification and capture.
So far, neither the United States nor Iran has issued any official statement confirming or denying the claim.
