Trump slams Pope Leo, urges him to ‘use common sense’

KABUL: Donald Trump has sharply criticized Pope Leo, saying the leader of the world’s Catholics should “correct himself” and act with “common sense.”
Posting on Truth Social, this morning Trump said he does not want a pope who criticizes the U.S. president, adding that without him in the White House, Pope Leo “wouldn’t have had a chance” to reach the Vatican.
He also claimed the pope’s selection was surprising and linked it to his American background, alleging it was seen as a way to improve engagement with his administration.
Trump further criticized the pope’s stance on global issues, saying he opposes any view that would tolerate nuclear weapons for Iran or condemn potential U.S. actions against Venezuela.
The remarks come after Pope Leo reportedly criticized some of Trump’s policies, including his threats toward Iran, and called for peace and dialogue over conflict.
