KABUL: Mark Kelly, a Democratic U.S. senator from Arizona, has called Donald Trump’s latest harsh remarks about Pope Leo “hateful.”
In a statement, Kelly said the U.S. president’s comments about the pope are unacceptable and have harmed the feelings of millions of Catholics.
He also referred to Trump’s Iran policy, saying it has led to the death of American forces and also civilians, particularly Iranian children.
Kelly added: “It’s clear that Trump is on the verge of losing.”
The remarks come as tensions between Trump and the Vatican have intensified, with both sides leveling strong criticism at each other’s positions.
