Uranium enrichment: Washington wants a 20-year suspension, Tehran agrees to 5 years

KABUL: After the failure to reach an agreement in the U.S.-Iran talks in Islamabad, Pakistani, the two countries senior officials have disclosed the most significant point of disagreement between Washington and Tehran.
Al Jazeera reported early today, according to two senior Iranian officials and one U.S. official, that Iran is willing to accept a 5-year suspension of its uranium enrichment program, but Washington has rejected it and is insisting on a 20-year suspension.
Meanwhile, J.D. Vance, the U.S. vice president, who led the American delegation in the trilateral talks in Islamabad told Fox News that the “ball is in Iran’s court” right now.
Vance added: “We made it very clear. Look, these are things that we’re willing to give, but these are things that we have to have. We have to remove the enriched material from Iran. We have to have their firm, concrete commitment that they won’t pursue nuclear weapon development.”
At the end of the Islamabad talks, both sides’ delegations made each other’s decisions the condition for any progress, Tehran said the ball was in Washington’s court, and Washington stated a similar position.
