Mawlavi Khalis calls for new waste management strategies

KABUL: Mawlavi Mati-ul-Haq Khalis, head of Afghanistan’s National Environmental Protection Agency, says the Islamic Emirate must develop new strategies for waste management across the country.

According to Radio Omid correspondent, he made the remarks on Tuesday during a national conference on waste management organized by the environmental agency in Kabul.

He said rapid population growth and increasing migration from rural areas to cities have led to a rise in waste production, making it necessary to introduce new and effective management solutions.

He added that both developed and developing countries are currently facing challenges related to waste management.

According to him, addressing the issue requires joint cooperation between the government, the private sector, and international organizations.

The head of the environmental agency also called on citizens to work alongside the government in managing waste in order to preserve a clean and healthy environment for future generations.

Two days earlier, the National Environmental Protection Agency, in cooperation with a private hospital in Kabul, held a one-day seminar on medical waste management.
