KABUL: The latest United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has warned that the Middle East is moving closer to a deeper crisis, with consequences extending far beyond the region.
In a post on X, Guterres said that attacks have intensified over the past week and the situation has continued to deteriorate. He noted that the current ceasefire resembles a reduction in violence rather than a path toward lasting peace.
The UN chief cautioned against underestimating the risk of limited hostilities escalating into a broader conflict and urged all parties involved to pursue diplomatic solutions.
Guterres also stressed that justifications for continued attacks must come to an end and that political dialogue should be prioritized to resolve the crisis and prevent further instability.
