Pakistan PM: Historic Islamabad agreement between Iran and U.S. now in effect

KQBUL: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between Iran and the United States has officially been signed electronically by the presidents of both countries and endorsed by Pakistan as the mediator.
In a post on X, Sharif said the agreement, aimed at achieving a diplomatic resolution to the dispute between Tehran and Washington, became effective immediately upon signing.
According to the Pakistani PM, the deal provides for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran, while the United States will lift its naval blockade.
Sharif also announced that a formal signing ceremony will be held in Switzerland, hosted by Pakistan with support from Qatar, and said technical negotiations between the two sides will begin at the same time.
He further thanked officials from Iran, the United States, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Egypt, and the Pakistan Army for their roles in facilitating the agreement.
