KABUL: Afghanistan’s Standards and Quality Authority (ASQA) said in a statement that its technical staff have rejected three shipments of construction materials and one shipment of carpets following quality inspections at the Shaikh Abu Nasr Farahi (Mile 78) port.
According to ASQA, the construction materials included steel beams, tiles and ceramics, while the carpet shipment contained 200 carpets weighing 21.46 tonnes.
Technical inspections found that the goods did not meet Afghanistan’s domestic standards, said the statement, adding that therefore prevented the products from entering the Afghan market and returned them to their countries of origin.
The Standards and Quality Authority said inspections and quality controls of imported goods will continue at ports across the country to prevent the distribution of substandard products, promote fair trade, improve market quality and protect public interests.
ASQA added that it will return products that fail to meet national standards and could pose risks to public health and safety.
