KABUL: The U.S. Department of War has reported a major security breach in one of its personnel information systems, reportedly exposing sensitive data from nearly 3 million current and former military and civilian employees.
According to reports, the leaked information includes personal identification details and employment records for about 2.76 million living individuals and 294,000 deceased individuals.
U.S. officials said hackers accessed the information from October 2025 through July 2026 by exploiting a security vulnerability in a file-sharing system.
Meanwhile, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has also confirmed that its FBIJobs.gov portal was compromised. The agency said it is investigating the incident and working with third-party providers to mitigate risks to employee information.
U.S. officials have emphasized that there is currently no evidence that the exposed information has been misused.
