Pakistan police arrest 278 members of Imran Khan’s PTI party

KABUL: Pakistani police have arrested 278 members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), led by former Prime Minister Imran Khan, following the declaration of an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to reports.

The PTI has condemned the arrests as undemocratic, describing them as an attempt by the Pakistani government to take control of power in the country.

Reports say the Pakistani government dissolved the PTI-led provincial government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and declared an emergency on Sunday over security concerns.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that Pakistani police also opened fire on members of Khan’s party during a protest in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa the previous day.
