One dead, more than 500 injured as powerful Typhoon hits Taiwan

KABUL: One person has died and more than 500 others have been injured in Taiwan after a powerful typhoon struck the island, Reuters reported.

According to the report, the storm uprooted trees and disrupted electricity supplies across Taiwan.

Taiwan’s Central Weather Administration said Typhoon Champi, which had previously reached super typhoon strength and was considered one of the strongest typhoons in the Pacific this year, was now weakening.

However, wind speeds near its centre remained around 126 kilometres per hour.

The report added that the typhoon was moving northward towards China’s coastal areas.
