KABUL: Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei says the United States continues to insist on its unilateral demands, while Tehran is fully prepared to respond to any potential scenario and defend itself.
Baghaei said messages are still being exchanged between Tehran and Washington through intermediaries, but added that the U.S. position that it will not attack Iran before the midterm elections indicates that military action remains part of Washington’s strategy.
He stressed that the Iranian people would not accept demands for “complete surrender,” arguing that the United States had not shown sufficient willingness to advance the diplomatic process.
The Iranian spokesman also said Iran had been attacked twice over the past nine months while negotiations were underway and hopes remained for a diplomatic outcome.
He said these experiences had reduced Tehran’s ability to trust U.S. commitments.
Baghaei also criticised European countries, particularly Germany, accusing Berlin of choosing to accommodate U.S. policies rather than pursuing an independent and constructive role.
