KABUL: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has reconstructed 45 drinking and agricultural water canals totaling 100 kilometers in Afghanistan.
The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said in a statement on its Facebook page today that the water canals were rebuilt in cooperation with Japan, expressing gratitude for the country’s support.
According to the UNAMA, the reconstruction of these canals has provided access to drinking water for 37,000 families and improved agricultural irrigation.
The project has also created new job opportunities for sustainable livelihoods. UNAMA did not disclose the cost of the canal reconstruction.
It is important to mention that the management of potable and agricultural water has been prioritized by both Emirati and non-Emirati institutions.
