Chinese state-owned auto manufacturer to invest $50 million in Afghanistan

KABUL: The Ministry of Industry and Commerce said in a statement on Monday that the Chinese auto manufacturer “Dongfeng Motors” plans to invest $50 million in the automotive industry in Afghanistan.

According to the statement, a representative of the company during a meeting with Mawlavi Ahmadullah Zahid, the Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce, said that the investment will be implemented over the next three and a half years in four phases.

The statement noted that the company plans to produce up to 2,000 vehicles annually in Afghanistan with this investment permanent employment opportunities for 500 to 700 individuals will be provided.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce welcomed the decision of “Dongfeng Motors” and assured that full support will be provided for the initiative in Afghanistan.

The ministry stated that the company will manufacture fast-moving vehicles, trucks, ambulances, and buses, which will be made available to the public on an installment basis.

It is worth noting that “Dongfeng Motors” is a state-owned company in China that has been operational since 1969.
