Work on Shaflogh dam in Uruzgan kicked off by Minister Mansoor

KABUL: Mullah Abdul Latif Mansoor, the acting Minister of Water and Energy, kicked off work on the Shaflogh Dam in Uruzgan, worth 165.9 million Afghanis (some 2,4 million U.S dollars), the ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
In a ceremony held on this occasion was attended by Mullah Abdul Latif Mansoor, local official, influential figures and residents of the province, said the statement.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Mansoor said that the main objective of the project is the effective management of surface water, strengthening underground water resources, and preventing seasonal floods, according to the statement.
He described the Islamic system as a great blessing and added, “Despite limited resources, this system has ensured security, national unity, and economic development throughout the country.”
The Shaflogh dam with 23 meters high and 155 meters wide, with a storage capacity of 850,000 cubic meters of water and would irrigate approximately 259 hectares of agricultural land, the statement said.
Mullah Mansoor also began construction work on the first phase of the Nahr-e-Saraj Canal in the Sangin district of Helmand province on Monday.
