KABUL: The Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, during his visit to Baku, met with Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov to discuss the expansion of political, economic, trade, and transit relations between the two countries.
In the meeting, Baradar called for enhancing Afghanistan’s diplomatic presence in Baku and requested the official recognition of the Islamic Emirate’s ambassador by Azerbaijan to strengthen political ties.
According to a statement from the office of the deputy PM for Affairs, Baradar also asked Azerbaijan to invest in areas such as oil and gas extraction and processing, railway network development, and the production of solar and wind energy.
Prime Minister Ali Asadov called Afghanistan an ancient country and noted the common religious, historical, and cultural relations between the people of Afghanistan and Azerbaijan.
Asadov further stated: “Azerbaijan has always wanted to cooperate with Afghanistan and will continue its efforts in this regard.” He emphasized the need to reactivate the joint economic commission to develop economic cooperation between the two countries.
He also mentioned that a trilateral working group involving Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan has been established, with its first meeting held in Kabul and another planned soon in Uzbekistan to discuss shared issues.
Asadov highlighted his country’s commitment to facilitating visas for Afghan traders, offering scholarships for Afghan students, sharing capacity-building experiences, and fostering investments and cooperation.
